Bum fights at the library, Homeless Guy just wants to work.

Post by iSpoogeDaily »

Description

Thinking about working in public vs. loafing in public, and how my background is so unique and perfect for talking about homelessness in a way that can have impact.

Wouldn't I rather just go back to work in tech as a software engineer? Absolutely. I don't want to think about or talk about / to homeless people; we're all different, but most of us are not like me.

00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:05,000
Yo, and welcome to the Ice Boog Daily Channel.

2
00:00:05,000 --> 00:00:11,000
This is an experimental tech and media brand,

3
00:00:11,000 --> 00:00:20,000
and where I was messing with the format and this and that you can see.

4
00:00:20,000 --> 00:00:25,000
This is the first one I've done, not at the library in this stretch.

5
00:00:25,000 --> 00:00:34,000
Usually, that's where I access the internet for free other than Starbucks.

6
00:00:34,000 --> 00:00:42,000
I'll talk about what went down after I play what I already voiced out on my way to the park after I left the library.

7
00:00:42,000 --> 00:00:49,000
So I'm going to do that and eat and not along, and then I'll give my commentary at the end.

8
00:00:55,000 --> 00:01:06,000
The homeless man at the library, not working.

9
00:01:06,000 --> 00:01:12,000
I feel like I had a full sentence about that.

10
00:01:12,000 --> 00:01:17,000
It's just a subject more than a statement I guess.

11
00:01:17,000 --> 00:01:30,000
But it's horrendous trying to work there because a lot of the guys that are there aren't trying to work.

12
00:01:30,000 --> 00:01:33,000
They're just trying to hang out past time.

13
00:01:33,000 --> 00:01:36,000
Be comfortable.

14
00:01:36,000 --> 00:01:41,000
You don't want to be comfortable as a homeless person.

15
00:01:41,000 --> 00:01:48,000
You want to be as uncomfortable as possible so that you are incentivized to get out of your situation.

16
00:01:48,000 --> 00:02:03,000
Because no one's nobody owes somebody away out of homelessness.

17
00:02:03,000 --> 00:02:07,000
And do I act like that's true? Yes, I do.

18
00:02:07,000 --> 00:02:19,000
Obviously, I think it would be nice if someone would give me a break considering how hard it is to do anything as a homeless person.

19
00:02:19,000 --> 00:02:23,000
But how do I manifest that?

20
00:02:23,000 --> 00:02:27,000
So I used to be a very well-paid software developer.

21
00:02:27,000 --> 00:02:40,000
Now I realize that my capabilities are limited out here and so I'm offering $16 an hour services.

22
00:02:40,000 --> 00:02:56,000
Like that should be plenty of incentive for anyone to be willing to hire me.

23
00:02:56,000 --> 00:03:08,000
I think more often people will just be suspicious of anyone willing to work for such a low rate.

24
00:03:08,000 --> 00:03:14,000
But okay, so I left the library now I'm at the park.

25
00:03:14,000 --> 00:03:17,000
Found a shady spot. I'm going to eat.

26
00:03:17,000 --> 00:03:22,000
I'm going to record a video. I can't upload it here because they don't have mobile service.

27
00:03:22,000 --> 00:03:24,000
So I have to go back to the library.

28
00:03:24,000 --> 00:03:28,000
But just as I left the library.

29
00:03:28,000 --> 00:03:32,000
So there were two bomb fights already in that first hour.

30
00:03:32,000 --> 00:03:35,000
If I didn't mention that.

31
00:03:35,000 --> 00:03:42,000
And yeah, so I left and just as I left the cops were pulling up.

32
00:03:42,000 --> 00:03:49,000
So I don't know why maybe they were just using the bathroom or whatever, but I was out there before they were in there.

33
00:03:49,000 --> 00:04:00,000
Because I think I was picturing a news reporter as I was packing up to leave talking about the able-bodied men who just hang out in the library.

34
00:04:00,000 --> 00:04:07,000
They don't want to work whatever the popular saying is around that, right?

35
00:04:07,000 --> 00:04:12,000
So I don't want to be in that group.

36
00:04:12,000 --> 00:04:16,000
I just have a day off. Yeah, I've had the last two days off.

37
00:04:16,000 --> 00:04:21,000
And the library is being closed for the last two days. And I've been in the parking lot.

38
00:04:21,000 --> 00:04:28,000
After I go to Starbucks for a long time or before or before and after.

39
00:04:28,000 --> 00:04:36,000
But you can only spend three to six hours in a Starbucks before it gets to be a problem there.

40
00:04:36,000 --> 00:04:44,000
So we're in a small town. The only place for free Wi-Fi and by the way the Starbucks Wi-Fi costs is the library.

41
00:04:44,000 --> 00:05:00,000
So now in small town or rural homelessness too, you're going to have parasites camping at all the limited resources like the Starbucks libraries.

42
00:05:00,000 --> 00:05:09,000
Wi-Brow Equals GTFO is actually a super incentive for Starbucks. I've never even been two upsets.

43
00:05:09,000 --> 00:05:13,000
I mean yeah, I threaten to withhold tips because I don't like it.

44
00:05:13,000 --> 00:05:24,000
I don't like being haste like the homeless person. But on the other hand, they make all the other homeless people feel so unwelcome that I will deal with it for a place to work.

45
00:05:24,000 --> 00:05:26,000
No problem.

46
00:05:26,000 --> 00:05:38,000
I'll complain about it. But I'll actually turn it into a lesson not a loss in Broke Equals GTFO is actually a winning strategy for them.

47
00:05:38,000 --> 00:05:43,000
You know, to own it. Don't be like, oh yeah, we treat everyone the same flight.

48
00:05:43,000 --> 00:05:48,000
We'd be like, no, if you're broke, we're going to be fixed to get out of here.

49
00:05:48,000 --> 00:05:55,000
Because we don't want this to end up like the library where Broke people just loaf.

50
00:05:57,000 --> 00:06:05,000
So by all means, if I can't afford to go to Starbucks, I don't. And that's great.

51
00:06:05,000 --> 00:06:11,000
Everyone who's broke should feel unwelcome at Starbucks, that's totally great.

52
00:06:11,000 --> 00:06:16,000
Because then they can hang out with the really broke people at the library.

53
00:06:17,000 --> 00:06:26,000
Because how do you really get the loafers out of the library? Like, you really can't. It's a government place. It's not business.

54
00:06:26,000 --> 00:06:31,000
So it's great that the library exists.

55
00:06:31,000 --> 00:06:44,000
But I don't want to be there. And so I will go to Starbucks where they, you know, they haze me.

56
00:06:45,000 --> 00:06:52,000
But hazing is part of the process to being in a desirable place.

57
00:06:52,000 --> 00:06:58,000
That's limited. That's fine.

58
00:06:58,000 --> 00:07:08,000
For a practical perspective, also, you know, it just keeps me not comfortable like I was talking about the other day.

59
00:07:08,000 --> 00:07:18,000
Just fine. Just fine with that.

60
00:07:18,000 --> 00:07:19,000
So I've got it.

61
00:07:19,000 --> 00:07:22,000
Oh, whatever that last thing was going to say.

62
00:07:22,000 --> 00:07:27,000
One second here.

63
00:07:27,000 --> 00:07:35,000
All right. Just had to change the sound profile on the microphone to be from all directional to unidirectional.

64
00:07:35,000 --> 00:07:37,000
So yeah.

65
00:07:37,000 --> 00:07:44,000
The cops rolled in just as I was rolling out. That was definitely some spidey sense action right there.

66
00:07:44,000 --> 00:07:49,000
Fewer encounters with law enforcement or anything official, the better.

67
00:07:49,000 --> 00:07:55,000
So I was able to just.

68
00:07:55,000 --> 00:08:03,000
But so you know, at the library at the park, it's going to be an even bigger problem than just sitting at the library.

69
00:08:03,000 --> 00:08:13,000
Because I've got the whole laptop set up again with the camera on top, the big mic in my.

70
00:08:13,000 --> 00:08:18,000
Well, big old birdie. Now we're going to have instead of bomb fights, we're going to have bird fights.

71
00:08:18,000 --> 00:08:25,000
So I might be in some prime nesting territory. I'm in a bush, but still a parking spot.

72
00:08:25,000 --> 00:08:32,000
And so interestingly, right when I pulled into this parking lot, some park worker pulls right next to me and sits with the truck idling.

73
00:08:32,000 --> 00:08:46,000
So after I started recording, you saw them pull out like, what kind of weird coincidence is that where, you know, the people I want to be around least are like park workers, you know, whatever.

74
00:08:46,000 --> 00:08:53,000
Workers of these spaces and then some park worker pulls in right next to me at the spot that's like barely a parking spot.

75
00:08:53,000 --> 00:08:59,000
Is that a parking spot? Yeah, I guess there's those cement things at the front of the parking spaces.

76
00:08:59,000 --> 00:09:01,000
So yeah.

77
00:09:02,000 --> 00:09:09,000
But yeah, now there's like families and kids and stuff walking by, which there is at the library too.

78
00:09:09,000 --> 00:09:17,000
But it's just like, I'm so much more out of place here. Like, everyone's going to stare at me here versus at the library.

79
00:09:17,000 --> 00:09:26,000
People might be a little bit more used to it. Like, people are definitely used to drug addicts hanging out and loafing at both places.

80
00:09:26,000 --> 00:09:40,000
But like loafing with a bunch of tech stuff is much more appropriate in the library parking lot while the library is closed than at the park.

81
00:09:40,000 --> 00:09:47,000
I really hate working at places meant for leisure and that actually extends to Starbucks.

82
00:09:47,000 --> 00:09:55,000
In college, yeah, I worked at coffee shops too, but I had some shops I would work at and some I would just meet up with certain friends at.

83
00:09:55,000 --> 00:10:04,000
There's our third space, you know, we both have roommates. Let's meet up at, you know, whatever t-shop or coffee shop or whatever.

84
00:10:04,000 --> 00:10:11,000
And then there were a couple on the university campus that I would always go to work to and keep fueled up on caffeine.

85
00:10:11,000 --> 00:10:19,000
Yeah, it is caffeine actually help work. I think it does send you into a mania for a short time that can help work.

86
00:10:19,000 --> 00:10:31,000
You know, it makes you slightly manic as long as it's like the Baltimore peak. There's some kind of peak with caffeine where before you get too much and after you've had enough you're in this weird.

87
00:10:31,000 --> 00:10:37,000
I don't find call it psychosis, but it's like definitely a mania altered state of mind.

88
00:10:37,000 --> 00:10:42,000
That is conducive to work certain types of work, I think.

89
00:10:42,000 --> 00:10:54,000
So yeah, I'm not down with the bomb fights at the library or being associated with the bombs at the library.

90
00:10:54,000 --> 00:11:04,000
I mean, I'm not just because I'm a homeless person doesn't mean I feel any connection with any other homeless person.

91
00:11:04,000 --> 00:11:14,000
Because you know why every homeless person is different and most of them are nothing like me. I'm homeless for a very unique situation.

92
00:11:14,000 --> 00:11:24,000
And I'm not saying other people aren't homeless for my reasons as well, but like specifically I was, you know, I grew up labor. I made it onto the gentry ladder.

93
00:11:24,000 --> 00:11:29,000
So already that's weird and rare and not many people are going to connect with that.

94
00:11:29,000 --> 00:11:33,000
Then I get thrown off the gentry ladder.

95
00:11:33,000 --> 00:11:39,000
Find out all the people who used to envy me are now taking pops at me because I'm vulnerable.

96
00:11:39,000 --> 00:11:46,000
I'm not being secretive about it because of gentry values, you know, I'm a gentry guy.

97
00:11:46,000 --> 00:11:53,000
So they're attacking me. So now I'm not connected to that ladder. Now I'm in the underclass.

98
00:11:53,000 --> 00:12:00,000
And which is, you know, homeless people basically.

99
00:12:00,000 --> 00:12:08,000
But I think a lot of people who are in gentry who get thrown off the ladder are going to do something that I wasn't willing to do.

100
00:12:08,000 --> 00:12:20,000
Okay, I would have never been fired from open table if I would have followed my boss and just apologized even though there was nothing to apologize for.

101
00:12:20,000 --> 00:12:29,000
Like if I would have just apologized for potentially making somebody feel bad who even my boss said didn't seem to upset.

102
00:12:29,000 --> 00:12:34,000
But the optics of it, you know, how it looks is real bad.

103
00:12:34,000 --> 00:12:46,000
So if I would have just said, I'm sorry if I made you feel, well, he told me not to talk to her directly as well because I wouldn't want to make things worse.

104
00:12:47,000 --> 00:12:57,000
So actually, not if I would have apologized to the person, but if I would have apologized to the bosses for putting the bosses in the situation where there's this conflict to deal with,

105
00:12:57,000 --> 00:13:07,000
that's truly what I needed to do to save my situation was nothing to do with the person I allegedly offended or whatever who

106
00:13:07,000 --> 00:13:13,000
officially was not to upset and who officially I shouldn't talk to because I wouldn't want to make things worse.

107
00:13:13,000 --> 00:13:22,000
Basically showing that my trying to make things better is going to be received as making things worse from this other person.

108
00:13:22,000 --> 00:13:31,000
I should have apologized to the bosses for embarrassing them and making them have to do the paperwork or whatever.

109
00:13:31,000 --> 00:13:38,000
I wouldn't have been fired. I was fired because I was like, no, this is not right.

110
00:13:38,000 --> 00:13:42,000
I rocked the boat too much.

111
00:13:42,000 --> 00:13:51,000
Now officially I don't have a reason for why I was fired. So if I asked officially why I was fired, I was given no reason.

112
00:13:51,000 --> 00:13:56,000
I should just have known, you know, whatever.

113
00:13:56,000 --> 00:14:05,000
I did the, I tried to do the human thing and the right things and was discouraged and stopped by my boss.

114
00:14:05,000 --> 00:14:16,000
But to keep my job I could have apologized to the boss instead of raising the issue and pushing it.

115
00:14:16,000 --> 00:14:27,000
I regret that not at all, but I'm a special type of homeless that worked extremely hard to get to where I was.

116
00:14:27,000 --> 00:14:39,000
Oh, who am I, who am I trying to sell on that? Have I convinced myself of that delusion? That's labor.

117
00:14:40,000 --> 00:14:53,000
I don't care which ladder I'm on. I just don't want to be on the underclass. I'd be fine, high in, I work hard. I'll get to the top of, you know, or high enough, whichever ladder I'm on.

118
00:14:54,000 --> 00:15:00,000
I like the park better than library.

119
00:15:00,000 --> 00:15:09,000
But yeah, no internet access here. Once I get internet access, things will be different.

120
00:15:09,000 --> 00:15:14,000
I'm not saying everything's going to be fixed, but things will be different.

121
00:15:15,000 --> 00:15:22,000
So, yeah, I don't like talking in front of people and someone else just pulled up, fun times.

122
00:15:22,000 --> 00:15:25,000
So...

123
00:15:44,000 --> 00:16:05,000
You know, another option is just a coworking space where someone can go to sort of like a Starbucks, except it might be expected that you're going to spend six to ten hours there instead of one to three, you know.

124
00:16:05,000 --> 00:16:13,000
And I already spend pretty much as much money at Starbucks every month as I would a coworking space, and coworking spaces do have free coffee.

125
00:16:13,000 --> 00:16:22,000
If you want it, that make it really easy to quit coffee for a month, in fact, which I'm not against doing.

126
00:16:22,000 --> 00:16:30,000
In fact, I'm quite in favor of not drinking as much coffee, but just because of the nature of going to Starbucks.

127
00:16:30,000 --> 00:16:41,000
Yeah, I could buy tea for the same price. I just don't like tea or the process of drinking tea blah blah blah.

128
00:16:41,000 --> 00:16:48,000
You know, it seems like I have no sense of urgency. Again, it seems like I get on Twitter and waste a bunch of time.

129
00:16:48,000 --> 00:16:58,000
But if you actually see what's going on in the background, you know, I isolate myself as much as possible,

130
00:16:58,000 --> 00:17:06,000
but there's still people approaching me. There's still bomb fights. There's still just the looks from workers.

131
00:17:06,000 --> 00:17:15,000
And I can take it upon myself to find ways to not absorb the energy of other people.

132
00:17:15,000 --> 00:17:23,000
And to, you know, not live in fear of being associated with the wrong people and knowing that everything's on God's time and God protects the righteous,

133
00:17:23,000 --> 00:17:31,000
no weapon formed against the righteous show prosper. So just worry about myself and be righteous and things will work out in the end.

134
00:17:31,000 --> 00:17:41,000
But it doesn't mean that being some kind of journalists and talking about these observations on the way out is necessarily harmful or a waste.

135
00:17:41,000 --> 00:17:47,000
It might even be my path, maybe my path isn't even being a tech entrepreneur and I keep trying to force it.

136
00:17:47,000 --> 00:17:55,000
Now, people would like that because if I'm a tech entrepreneur, I'm going to be higher up on the ladder than them and people want to see you do well, but not better than them.

137
00:17:55,000 --> 00:17:59,000
So I really have to be careful about which advice I follow too.

138
00:17:59,000 --> 00:18:04,000
This people will lead you down or wrong path just so that they'll make you not overshadow them.

139
00:18:04,000 --> 00:18:14,000
You know, everyone has an ego, that spirit of the ego, that wants to dominate the soul purpose of yourself and others.

140
00:18:14,000 --> 00:18:24,000
You know, overshadow it, take ownership of it, take power where it can control what it can, et cetera, et cetera.

141
00:18:24,000 --> 00:18:37,000
So yeah, just being forced to move around and make all these, you know, banal observations about small things like people, rather than ideas, you know.

142
00:18:37,000 --> 00:18:45,000
Part of the process, I mean, I'm not leveling in it, I'm not trying to draw it out longer than we need to.

143
00:18:45,000 --> 00:18:55,000
I am trying to, you know, regularly do these videos every day, but, you know.

144
00:18:55,000 --> 00:18:57,000
See how we got about a minute left.

145
00:18:57,000 --> 00:19:06,000
Thanks for joining. This is the new, you know, just doing my best to keep things going.

146
00:19:06,000 --> 00:19:11,000
Move in and grow into the situation in the direction I need to.

147
00:19:11,000 --> 00:19:19,000
And, you know, I, I hope all the able-bodied men at the library get some work sooner rather than later.

148
00:19:19,000 --> 00:19:26,000
That adds some meaning to their life and, you know.

149
00:19:26,000 --> 00:19:31,000
So thanks for joining. Looking forward to seeing you next time. Take care.
