Description

Spent 6 hours at Starbucks on Easter and worked on the Forum. Showing it off a little bit. Thinking about what I need to edit a video, and it's the same thing I need to study / interview for Software Engineering jobs (high paying).

00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:05,000
Yo, and welcome to the Ice Boog Daily Channel.

2
00:00:05,000 --> 00:00:12,000
Today is the last day of the month and unfortunately,

3
00:00:12,000 --> 00:00:16,000
I have not produced a video.

4
00:00:16,000 --> 00:00:21,000
So I posted, which I counted and already forgot.

5
00:00:21,000 --> 00:00:28,000
Something like 18 or so videos this month,

6
00:00:28,000 --> 00:00:35,000
and the goal was 10, and one was an essay reading

7
00:00:35,000 --> 00:00:40,000
and the rest were the daily videos,

8
00:00:40,000 --> 00:00:46,000
and one was a reflection of a tree and water.

9
00:00:46,000 --> 00:00:52,000
So, you know,

10
00:00:52,000 --> 00:00:57,000
can't win them all.

11
00:00:57,000 --> 00:01:04,000
How could I have done better?

12
00:01:04,000 --> 00:01:07,000
That's the top one.

13
00:01:07,000 --> 00:01:11,000
Because focus is the problem.

14
00:01:11,000 --> 00:01:14,000
And I'm not just an excuse maker.

15
00:01:14,000 --> 00:01:17,000
I'm a accomplished software engineer.

16
00:01:17,000 --> 00:01:21,000
I know how to find focus when I can afford it.

17
00:01:21,000 --> 00:01:22,000
I'm resourceful.

18
00:01:22,000 --> 00:01:26,000
I also grew up without a lot.

19
00:01:26,000 --> 00:01:28,000
And still made it.

20
00:01:28,000 --> 00:01:30,000
Not saying I had no help.

21
00:01:30,000 --> 00:01:33,000
My parents gave me a bathroom.

22
00:01:33,000 --> 00:01:38,000
And I lived there until I bought a house when I was like 22.

23
00:01:38,000 --> 00:01:46,000
So, that was with programming money.

24
00:01:46,000 --> 00:01:52,000
And yeah, then in my adulthood,

25
00:01:52,000 --> 00:02:04,000
I started needing to ask people for things again.

26
00:02:04,000 --> 00:02:12,000
But that's just to say that focus is extremely expensive,

27
00:02:12,000 --> 00:02:14,000
ability to focus.

28
00:02:14,000 --> 00:02:19,000
So, can I focus at Starbucks in the morning?

29
00:02:20,000 --> 00:02:22,000
If I'm there for two to three hours today,

30
00:02:22,000 --> 00:02:23,000
I was there for six hours.

31
00:02:23,000 --> 00:02:28,000
I did get a decent amount of stuff done today.

32
00:02:28,000 --> 00:02:32,000
But usually I'm there for like two to three hours.

33
00:02:32,000 --> 00:02:39,000
And I don't get a lot done.

34
00:02:39,000 --> 00:02:46,000
I don't think I would have been able to edit a video there.

35
00:02:46,000 --> 00:02:51,000
I misspoke when I said four minutes per one minute of produced video.

36
00:02:51,000 --> 00:02:55,000
That's four hours per minute of produced video.

37
00:02:55,000 --> 00:03:01,000
So, in a eight hour day, you could produce a two minute video, basically.

38
00:03:01,000 --> 00:03:07,000
That might be a little off from whatever I read actually said.

39
00:03:07,000 --> 00:03:11,000
It might have been like two or three hours per minute.

40
00:03:11,000 --> 00:03:19,000
So, that would mean four hours for a two minute video.

41
00:03:19,000 --> 00:03:23,000
Ten hours for a five minute video.

42
00:03:23,000 --> 00:03:26,000
I believe that definitely.

43
00:03:26,000 --> 00:03:31,000
I might even believe the four minute, the four hour number.

44
00:03:31,000 --> 00:03:37,000
It just seems big on small videos, but maybe there's a lot of overhead.

45
00:03:37,000 --> 00:03:44,000
So, yeah, today I did a little work with the forum.

46
00:03:44,000 --> 00:03:48,000
So, I just switched the screen share.

47
00:03:48,000 --> 00:03:54,000
And we had this.

48
00:03:54,000 --> 00:04:04,000
So, now I just added the logo to the sub forum, the Ice Boog Daily one.

49
00:04:04,000 --> 00:04:08,000
So, normal.

50
00:04:08,000 --> 00:04:20,000
And then Ice Boog Daily.

51
00:04:20,000 --> 00:04:23,000
And then I went and posted the popular videos.

52
00:04:23,000 --> 00:04:31,000
And I went back and updated their descriptions to have

53
00:04:31,000 --> 00:04:34,000
links to this forum.

54
00:04:34,000 --> 00:04:40,000
And on the older ones I put the data in.

55
00:04:40,000 --> 00:04:46,000
So, then I also set it up so that the embedded video works.

56
00:04:46,000 --> 00:04:51,000
So, now there's the transcripts and the embedded video.

57
00:04:51,000 --> 00:04:53,000
And still the link in.

58
00:04:53,000 --> 00:04:59,000
This is just copied from the YouTube description.

59
00:04:59,000 --> 00:05:03,000
And here now, if we want to talk about specific things that I say,

60
00:05:03,000 --> 00:05:07,000
we can quote the,

61
00:05:07,000 --> 00:05:09,000
basically,

62
00:05:09,000 --> 00:05:18,000
analogous to verse or the sentence.

63
00:05:18,000 --> 00:05:27,000
So, 2024, 310.3.

64
00:05:27,000 --> 00:05:30,000
And you guys are liking this new microphone.

65
00:05:30,000 --> 00:05:33,000
The audio quality is a lot better.

66
00:05:33,000 --> 00:05:37,000
Big problem now is the positioning with the gain.

67
00:05:37,000 --> 00:05:41,000
So, yeah, I set up the forum.

68
00:05:41,000 --> 00:05:47,000
And I added a couple videos to it.

69
00:05:47,000 --> 00:05:52,000
And then on the server side, I installed.

70
00:05:52,000 --> 00:05:57,000
And I also set up the web and press rack and whisper the tools for extracting

71
00:05:57,000 --> 00:06:03,000
text from images and audio.

72
00:06:03,000 --> 00:06:08,000
So, yeah, forums open.

73
00:06:08,000 --> 00:06:15,000
And the idea that I wanted to talk about today was just like.

74
00:06:15,000 --> 00:06:19,000
So, when I started this channel, I was in an apartment.

75
00:06:19,000 --> 00:06:22,000
And you could see me posting every single day.

76
00:06:22,000 --> 00:06:25,000
And at that time,

77
00:06:25,000 --> 00:06:29,000
I didn't know what narcissism or narcissistic abuse was.

78
00:06:29,000 --> 00:06:33,000
And so, people insinuated that I was putting on a show

79
00:06:33,000 --> 00:06:38,000
that I was selling people on something.

80
00:06:38,000 --> 00:06:43,000
No, I was legit.

81
00:06:43,000 --> 00:06:46,000
Being productive every single day.

82
00:06:46,000 --> 00:06:52,000
Just like I do now, but not on video.

83
00:06:52,000 --> 00:06:57,000
And I've gotten far more support from strangers.

84
00:06:57,000 --> 00:06:59,000
Dollar for dollar.

85
00:06:59,000 --> 00:07:02,000
My old friends have maybe.

86
00:07:02,000 --> 00:07:05,000
It's probably about 50, 50 right now.

87
00:07:05,000 --> 00:07:08,000
On what my old friends helped me out with.

88
00:07:08,000 --> 00:07:11,000
In big chunks and strangers helped me out.

89
00:07:11,000 --> 00:07:13,000
Many strangers and smaller chunks.

90
00:07:13,000 --> 00:07:18,000
And a couple bigger contributions from strangers as well.

91
00:07:18,000 --> 00:07:24,000
So, thanks so much for all that.

92
00:07:24,000 --> 00:07:29,000
So, going to Starbucks.

93
00:07:29,000 --> 00:07:31,000
I can get some focus.

94
00:07:31,000 --> 00:07:33,000
Why can't I just sit in the backseat and focus?

95
00:07:33,000 --> 00:07:40,000
It's because I like chrome from Van City Van Life's definition

96
00:07:40,000 --> 00:07:43,000
of stealth camping.

97
00:07:43,000 --> 00:07:48,000
It's not that people can't tell that the vehicle is a camper.

98
00:07:48,000 --> 00:07:50,000
It's that they can't tell that you're inside.

99
00:07:50,000 --> 00:07:57,000
So, with these non-tinted windows, people can obviously just see me sitting in the car.

100
00:07:57,000 --> 00:08:02,000
And the windows are so low to the ground that.

101
00:08:03,000 --> 00:08:10,000
For many kind of distance, people are going to see at least the top of my head, even if I'm sitting all the way down on the floor.

102
00:08:10,000 --> 00:08:15,000
And if they walk right by the car and see me sitting down on the floor trying to hide,

103
00:08:15,000 --> 00:08:18,000
it's going to be super weird and creepy.

104
00:08:18,000 --> 00:08:23,000
So, that's worse than just sitting in plain sight, I think.

105
00:08:23,000 --> 00:08:28,000
So, the next option of tinting windows, I've talked about already.

106
00:08:28,000 --> 00:08:43,000
And I might still end up doing it, but the big thing with tinting windows is, if you see the outside of the car, it's pretty just weather warm, it's weathered.

107
00:08:43,000 --> 00:08:47,000
So, I could repaint the wheels.

108
00:08:47,000 --> 00:08:54,000
Maybe replace some of the trim.

109
00:08:55,000 --> 00:08:57,000
Definitely wash it at least.

110
00:08:57,000 --> 00:08:59,000
Detail it.

111
00:08:59,000 --> 00:09:02,000
Maybe degrease some parts.

112
00:09:02,000 --> 00:09:09,000
There's spots where other people's cars have hit me with, have hit my car with the door.

113
00:09:09,000 --> 00:09:12,000
Just a little dense.

114
00:09:12,000 --> 00:09:19,000
You know, it could just use a refreshing, because you don't have brand new tint on a dusty old looking car.

115
00:09:19,000 --> 00:09:26,000
It's not like super dusty, but if I were to put brand new tint on, it would highlight how dusty it is.

116
00:09:26,000 --> 00:09:37,000
So, being just dusty and stock, it doesn't look too dusty, but if you were to put tint on it, it would look pretty dusty, if that makes sense.

117
00:09:37,000 --> 00:09:43,000
So, that's why I don't just sit in the back seat.

118
00:09:43,000 --> 00:09:50,000
And number two, and it's kind of a catch 22, circular dependency.

119
00:09:50,000 --> 00:09:52,000
Why don't I have mobile internet?

120
00:09:52,000 --> 00:09:55,000
It's because I can't really sit anywhere and use mobile internet.

121
00:09:55,000 --> 00:10:01,000
I can't really sit in the back of the car and use it anywhere, like.

122
00:10:01,000 --> 00:10:06,000
I'm just too easy to have a target, like if I go park at a grocery store.

123
00:10:06,000 --> 00:10:12,000
It'd be exactly like my feeling at the library where, you know, other homeless people come up to the car.

124
00:10:12,000 --> 00:10:17,000
I just feel like security will be like, oh, that's an easy thing I can accomplish today.

125
00:10:17,000 --> 00:10:22,000
I'll just go talk to that guy who I see sitting in the car as opposed to.

126
00:10:22,000 --> 00:10:31,000
I'll approach that car that I can't tell if anybody's in, which, you know, isn't a problem otherwise,

127
00:10:31,000 --> 00:10:34,000
but if you're just like sitting out in the middle of a parking lot,

128
00:10:34,000 --> 00:10:39,000
and they can see you in there day after day after day that are going to come over.

129
00:10:40,000 --> 00:10:46,000
But if you move around to a bunch of different spots,

130
00:10:46,000 --> 00:10:50,000
I don't know if you'd be better off with or without tint.

131
00:10:50,000 --> 00:10:59,000
Probably with, because it just leaves the illegibility factor intact.

132
00:10:59,000 --> 00:11:08,000
So, mobile service plus tint could be a step before a van,

133
00:11:08,000 --> 00:11:16,000
but on the other hand, a van, you know, it's like four grand.

134
00:11:16,000 --> 00:11:26,000
And a room in the city with four roommates close to downtown is about 500 a month.

135
00:11:26,000 --> 00:11:36,000
So, it really feels more worth it to just get a van.

136
00:11:36,000 --> 00:11:50,000
And an intermediary step of her intermediate step in the middle would be tinting the car windows

137
00:11:50,000 --> 00:11:53,000
and getting mobile service there.

138
00:11:53,000 --> 00:12:02,000
And finding places I can sit like that, because, yeah, sitting in Starbucks,

139
00:12:02,000 --> 00:12:09,000
I think it was okay today, because it was Easter a holiday.

140
00:12:09,000 --> 00:12:13,000
Also, I went in later, I started at the library,

141
00:12:13,000 --> 00:12:17,000
and then I waited until I had to go to the bathroom to go to Starbucks.

142
00:12:17,000 --> 00:12:22,000
So, it was like 10 or 11 by the time I got there, and like 530 when I left,

143
00:12:22,000 --> 00:12:29,000
a little over six hours.

144
00:12:29,000 --> 00:12:39,000
So, definitely talking waste lower than yesterday, huh?

145
00:12:39,000 --> 00:12:50,000
So, another thing, so just, you know, given the fact that it's so hard for me to get privacy, what does that mean?

146
00:12:50,000 --> 00:12:56,000
It also means that I've been heard this in a long time,

147
00:12:56,000 --> 00:13:05,000
but it feels like, takes some accountability, is a common theme that, you know, sort of guru is used, personal trainer type people uses,

148
00:13:05,000 --> 00:13:09,000
you need some accountability in your life.

149
00:13:09,000 --> 00:13:19,000
As though people probably don't try hard, like I know that one of the big reasons I'm doing all this IT stuff is actually to give myself some accountability.

150
00:13:20,000 --> 00:13:28,000
Like the reason I started using Twitter as a journal was to give myself some timestamps accountability,

151
00:13:28,000 --> 00:13:43,000
because otherwise it's so hard to preserve any kind of like digital paper trail that has like chain of custody level.

152
00:13:43,000 --> 00:13:52,000
You can't just serve the time that a text document was saved because you can change the clock on your computer.

153
00:13:52,000 --> 00:13:57,000
So you don't have any accountability without some external timestamping service.

154
00:13:57,000 --> 00:14:08,000
So, something you can do is take a hash of the content and then post that to Twitter.

155
00:14:08,000 --> 00:14:14,000
So now you have a timestamped hash and it's pretty unlikely that you can regenerate that hash with any other content.

156
00:14:14,000 --> 00:14:20,000
So you run the hash function on the text file and you say, okay, that hash tweeted out at that time.

157
00:14:20,000 --> 00:14:23,000
So that's like a 99.

158
00:14:23,000 --> 00:14:27,000
You know, how many nines, 59s, I don't know.

159
00:14:27,000 --> 00:14:37,000
It might be more like 10 or 12 nines, I don't know, depending how many bits are in the timestamp.

160
00:14:37,000 --> 00:14:46,000
But, and the probability of a hash collision.

161
00:14:46,000 --> 00:14:54,000
But it's going to be a super high likelihood that that text file was saved prior to.

162
00:14:54,000 --> 00:15:01,000
Now you can't get an exact time stamp for it unless you embed it within the text itself.

163
00:15:01,000 --> 00:15:04,000
That's still just to claim that's within the hash content though.

164
00:15:04,000 --> 00:15:15,000
The real accountability comes from the fact that by this time, this text file existed.

165
00:15:15,000 --> 00:15:22,000
So you type something, you hash it, you tweet it out, tweet out the hash.

166
00:15:22,000 --> 00:15:27,000
And then two years later, you know, the message comes up in a paper document.

167
00:15:27,000 --> 00:15:33,000
You construct the text, you run it through the hash function, the same hash that was tweeted two years ago comes out.

168
00:15:33,000 --> 00:15:40,000
Boom, there's some low cost accountability through your IT stack.

169
00:15:40,000 --> 00:15:47,000
So homeless system of record is part of my homeless data project.

170
00:15:47,000 --> 00:15:54,000
Those are things that would be working on if I had more time that I could focus in.

171
00:15:54,000 --> 00:16:05,000
So, you know, the time that I'm at Starbucks is my only, or outside the library is my only internet access since I don't have a mobile phone.

172
00:16:05,000 --> 00:16:10,000
So those two spots are the only places I can actually use IT.

173
00:16:10,000 --> 00:16:19,000
So yeah, I could record these videos somewhere else and then upload it to YouTube when I get that connection.

174
00:16:20,000 --> 00:16:25,000
But to me, it's easier to just record it here and upload it right away.

175
00:16:25,000 --> 00:16:29,000
So that's a part of my process that could change.

176
00:16:29,000 --> 00:16:37,000
Part of the reason it's like this is because the laptop battery toasted a few months ago for unknown reasons.

177
00:16:37,000 --> 00:16:43,000
And so I have to use it with the jackery, which is a big thing to log around and I just don't.

178
00:16:43,000 --> 00:16:46,000
Like when I go hiking, I don't even bring a backpack with me.

179
00:16:46,000 --> 00:16:54,000
So if I were to start bringing a backpack hiking that I could put the laptop in jackery and everything in it and then record.

180
00:16:54,000 --> 00:17:00,000
When I did the early videos last year, homeless guy in a bush just wants to work.

181
00:17:00,000 --> 00:17:05,000
My laptop's battery still worked and my lapel mic still worked.

182
00:17:05,000 --> 00:17:15,000
So all I had to bring in my backpack, which was really light at the time, was just the laptop, the camera, the lapel mic.

183
00:17:16,000 --> 00:17:20,000
Now the lapel mic doesn't work, the laptop battery doesn't work.

184
00:17:20,000 --> 00:17:26,000
So I've got to bring a big clunky jackery, a big clunky microphone.

185
00:17:26,000 --> 00:17:33,000
And then like deal with all the chords.

186
00:17:33,000 --> 00:17:38,000
So the power adapter for the laptop, the USB cable for the microphone.

187
00:17:38,000 --> 00:17:43,000
I mean this is a big clunker. It's a good one, but it's a big.

188
00:17:43,000 --> 00:17:47,000
It's not really meant to go on hikes, you know, at risk damaging it.

189
00:17:47,000 --> 00:17:56,000
If not just from vibration and shock and whatnot, like if I were to slip in, you know, which isn't a common thing.

190
00:17:56,000 --> 00:18:03,000
If it rains and it's not like bagged up, you know what I mean, just want to deal with that.

191
00:18:03,000 --> 00:18:07,000
So I end up just recording here and while we're already at 18 minutes.

192
00:18:07,000 --> 00:18:13,000
So yeah, privacy, a place to get focus is the main thing I want.

193
00:18:13,000 --> 00:18:17,000
It's what the different options think about going towards.

194
00:18:17,000 --> 00:18:21,000
My own place, a place with roommates, a coworking space,

195
00:18:21,000 --> 00:18:27,000
tint on my car, a van, Starbucks, the library.

196
00:18:27,000 --> 00:18:35,000
I would on a hike, you know, these various options each have pros and cons and costs

197
00:18:35,000 --> 00:18:49,000
and benefits, et cetera. So yeah, failed the goal of producing and editing a video this month.

198
00:18:49,000 --> 00:18:59,000
I just kind of punted on it today, focused on getting the forum up to snuff and looking good, ready to go.

199
00:18:59,000 --> 00:19:05,000
And we'll see about producing a video.

200
00:19:05,000 --> 00:19:15,000
How to build that into the routine and things are only going to get easier as I'm no longer homeless once a couple more paychecks come in.

201
00:19:15,000 --> 00:19:17,000
Thanks, everybody who's helped out the channel.

202
00:19:17,000 --> 00:19:21,000
Definitely appreciate y'all.

203
00:19:21,000 --> 00:19:27,000
You know, whether you're a Patreon supporter or a Venmo supporter, et cetera,

204
00:19:27,000 --> 00:19:31,000
you know, definitely all appreciated.

205
00:19:31,000 --> 00:19:33,000
So thanks a lot. Take care.

206
00:19:33,000 --> 00:19:35,000
Look forward to seeing you next time.

207
00:19:35,000 --> 00:19:37,000
Goodbye.
